Lightning from a strong Monday afternoon storm is the suspected cause of a fire that had at least one tree smoldering Tuesday at the Steamboat Ski Area.

A four-person U.S. Forest Service firefighting crew was dispatched Tuesday morning to the smoldering tree near the Quick Draw trail in the Sunshine Bowl.

Steamboat Ski Area spokesman Mike Lane said a Ski Area employee spotted the smoke and crews monitored the tree until firefighters arrived.

Forest Service spokeswoman Kim Vogel said there is little potential for the fire at the ski area to spread, but additional fires might be spotted in the area today due to Monday's lightning.
