Simon Kassemi, a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs,has been selected to compete as a member of the Air Force Academy’s three-person team at the Jean Pictet International Humanitarian Law Competition in Geneva, Switzerland, in April 2008. The Pictet Competition, held in a different country each year, is a week-long event that will test each team’s training in the fields of international humanitarian law (the laws of war): international solidarity, international criminal law and refugee law. Undergraduate and graduate students from around the world gather to compete at the Pictet Competition, which is hosted by the International Committee of the Red Cross. Simon will begin advanced studies of international humanitarian law next semester at the Air Force Academy, where he is majoring in Military Strategic Studies.

Shea Hurley is full of surprises. For instance, former Steamboat Springs head football coach Mark Drake remembers Hurley catching the D’Evelyn defense off guard in Steamboat’s 2003 playoff run to the state semifinals. In what Drake called a “turning-point play,” Hurley ran a screen pass in for a touchdown to put the Sailors ahead, 10-0, against the previously undefeated team.
