Steamboat Smokehouse owner Fritz Aurin and his family brought Larry the camel downtown for an advertising photo shoot Sunday morning outside the restaurant. Aurin’s daughter, Aleigh, showed the pet some love as a crowd started gathering on Lincoln Avenue. The 4-year-old camel was on his way to a pet photo shoot with Santa at Howelsen Hill. The holidays are a busy time for Larry, Aleigh Aurin said. “He comes out for a lot of Nativity scenes,” she said.

Business was good, the entrepreneurs said. Garrett Camilletti said he was saving up cash for a bow to do archery. Shaelynn is saving up for the Routt County Fair, and her brother, Garrett, said he’d probably use his share of the money to buy toys.

Rocky Mountain Airways Flight 217 crashed on Buffalo Pass, northeast of Steamboat Springs. This image was shot Friday from a plane flown by Matt Kotts, who survived the crash as an infant. The power lines the plane hit run down the bare patch in the middle of the photo. The plane landed toward the top of the pass.
