John F. Russell is the sports editor and a photographer for the Pilot & Today. He writes a sports column that appears Sundays. He has worked for the newspaper since June 1990. John has a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Colorado and worked at the Longmont Times-Call during college. John is from Denver. His hobbies include bowling, softball, photography, pinochle and following his two lovely children around.

Steamboat Springs’ Kellen Gormley, who will be 3 years old next month, gets a face full of cool water while playing at the Old Town Hot Springs.

Musician Rebecca Albers has performed across North America, Europe and Asia and has appeared on national TV in the United States and China. On Monday, she rehearsed with a group of musicians who will perform at the Strings Music Festival this Wednesday evening.

Steamboat Springs Fire-Rescue personnel attend to the scene of a one-vehicle accident Monday morning. The accident claimed the life of the driver, 22-year-old Oleg Lasii. The vehicle's passenger was seriously injured.

Jeremy Doerr climbs to the top of the wall at the Old Town Hot Springs on Monday afternoon. Once he reached the top, however, Doerr released his grip, falling into the inviting waters far below.

Steamboat Springs High School golfer Kaelen Gundersen tees off on the driving range at the Haymaker golf course in Steamboat on Monday. The high school golf team will travel to its first tournament of the season Thursday in Battle Mountain.
