On Streetscape consultants plan revitalized downtown

The elephant in this living room is a potential by-pass. If there is a by-pass (enormous cost and controversy notwithstanding), then this streetscape plan will work splendidly. I saw the presentation and was impressed. However, if a by-pass does not make it onto the drawing board, then Lincoln Avenue, with its 7 under-used lanes, will be the most attractive alternative. I just don't see how a major through-highway can coexist with the new streetscape. I hope the consultants have a plan for that eventuality, too.

Adding a light at 11th is a good idea. Eliminating the light at 8th is a bad idea. Too many people are used to crossing at 7th, 8th and 9th to get them to walk an extra block to cross safely. They'll just try to dash between cars as they do now at 4th, 6th, 10th and 11th. Why trade one dangerous intersection for another?

Steve Ivancie's previous Council majority regularly conducted business out of the public eye, and it regularly pre-arranged its votes on important issues. The Harwig's sessions may be unwise, but Steve's arguments are hypocritical.

We've been looking for a piece of downtown green space for years, and now here it is, exactly where we would have placed it if we'd been able to design Lincoln Avenue from the beginning. This could be our last opportunity to create a downtown gathering place. Parking spaces! You can put those anywhere, or actually walk a block to your destination. Don't listen to the naysayers, Main Street.
