The stadium experience

Staging the final night of the Democratic National Convention at Invesco Field, rather than the Pepsi Center, was an idea that created logistical nightmares but also an incredibly energetic scene that ultimately paid off for Democrats.
When you attend a political event in a town hall, high school auditorium or even an arena the size of the Pepsi Center, the event's overall message feels contained to that particular room, like only the people in that room believe in the message. But Thursday night at Invesco Field, the feeling was entirely different. The event became societal. It is impossible to look at 84,000 people waving U.S. flags and cheering as one without feeling that the event transcends its location. It's the feeling Democrats hoped to inspire and that Republicans will try to match in Minneapolis. If the energy of this convention is a sign of what lies ahead in the next two months, we are in for one hell of a fall campaign season.
